The Prosecutor General directs the Prosecutor’s Office and performs other duties assigned to him or her by the law.
Once a year, the Prosecutor General submits the Minister of Justice a report about the activities of the Prosecutor’s Office.
Every year, the Prosecutor General submits to the Constitutional Committee of the Riigikogu an overview of the previous calendar year’s fulfilment of the duties assigned to the Prosecutor’s Office by the law.
The Prosecutor General is appointed to office by the Government of the Republic upon proposal by the Minister of Justice, having heard the opinion of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu.
The Prosecutor General is appointed to office for a term of five years.
